CROP AND WEATHER REPORT

 

 

KENYA:

West of the Rift, Kericho conditions reported warmer during the day with precipitation recorded at 63.9mm while Bomet and Nyamira/Kisii received 26mm and 35mm respectively.  Average temperatures of 21C maximum and 11C minimum experienced.  Nandi recorded reduced rainfall recorded to 48mm(weekly total 666.4mm) with temperatures averaging highs of 23C and lows of 11C.  In East of the Rift, rainfall waned to 17mm, 14mm, 13mm and 9mm in Muranga/Nyeri/Kirinyaga, Kiambu, areas around the Aberdares and Embu/Meru respectively.  Temperatures averaged maximum 23C and minimum 14C.

Crop: Declining with lower temperatures. 

 

TANZANIA:

East Usambara:

Conditions are overcast with reduced precipitation at 13mm; average temperatures were at maximum 28C and minimum 17C.

 

Southern Highlands - Mufindi, Njombe & Mbeya:

Continue to experience seasonal dry weather with temperatures averaging highs of 20C and lows of 11C.

Crop: Low.

 

WESTERN UGANDA

All tea growing areas received good rainfall in Kibaale, Hoima and Bushenyi recording 46mm, 45mm and 22mm respectively and was useful in Fort Portal at 86mm.  Temperatures averaged at maximum 28C and minimum 18C.

Crop:  Slight increase.

MALAWI

Some light showers were experienced during the first two days of the reporting period, thereafter cold to very cold conditions were reported with some clouds.

Crop: continues low.

 

SRI LANKA

Southwest Monsoon continues in the Western and Nuwara Eliya regions with showers reported throughout the week; Nuwara Eliya region has been experiencing strong winds over the past week as well. Uva and Udapussellawa regions reported bright weather with regular strong winds; prevailing windy conditions in the island are expected to reduce gradually from now on. In the Low Growns regular rainfall with strong blowing was reported in the Ruhuna and Sabaragamuwa regions with erratic weather conditions in Ruhuna while Sabaragamuwa regions prevented workers from harvesting green leaf.

Crop:  continues to show a decline.
